Memorial website in the memory of your loved one
This memorial website was created in the memory of  Amanda Gallegos who was born in Colorado on May 26, 1999 and passed away on January 20, 2001 at the age of 19 months. We will remember her forever.

Amanda tragically lost her life on 20th January 2001 aged just 19 months. She was a victim of child abuse, who died despite her grandmother and others reporting her abuse to the Adams County abuse line. A case worker was called to the house but dismissed bruises on the little girl’s spine. The case worker has been qouted as saying that he saw “Nothing that made him sick to his stomach” Taken from The Denver Post: “…But when 19-month-old Amanda Gallegos died in January 2001, there was no state report, even though Adams County caseworkers had been called repeatedly to check her for bruises. An autopsy found broken ribs that had been healing for weeks. The pathologist who conducted Amanda's autopsy said 'There are blunt traumatic injuries' that were 'suspicious for abuse/foul play.' The autopsy also revealed that she haemorrhaged from an internal injury, possibly caused by squeezing or repeatedly striking her chest and back. Had there been a state review, it might have noted that Adams County received eight worried calls from her grandmother and others before Amanda died. And it might have disclosed that a county supervisor accused her own agency of altering the toddler's case file to cover up its failure to intervene.” A number of people are reported to have contacted Adams County regarding Amanda and also her sibling. An eye witness report states that they saw that "Amanda had been spanked to the point where she was black and blue all over her thighs." She was among those who had been reporting possible abuse to Adams County. In the end, along with the allegations of a cover up, the case was left ‘open’ so to date nobody has been brought to account for the hurt sustained by little Amanda Gallegos or her subsequent death. Amanda is yet another innocent child who COULD have been saved. She had a family who loved her, and tried to save her but they were let down by people who are employed to protect children from abuse.
